There are two types of people in this world.
1. People who are slaves of their minds.
2. People whose minds are their slaves.
First of all, what does it mean to be mentally strong?
In a simpler sense, I would call it an individual's capability to not be affected by all the rubbishness his mind throws at him.
Let us understand this with a tempting example.
Let us assume you are married to an amazing girl. You love her, she loves you and you are a perfect dream couple. Like every couple, you do have some ups and downs.
One day, a beautiful girl joins your workplace. She is really charming and gorgeous. She is a good soul and a perfect example of beauty with the brain.

Naturally, even though you are married, you get tempted by her. That is quite obvious.
Being your colleague, she behaves nicely with you. But, your crappy mind takes it differently. It makes you believe by projecting stupid theories that she has a romantic interest in you.
Cunningly, your mind will bring forth all the flaws and faults of your current partner. Continuously it will make you focus on the worsts of your partner and the bests of your that colleague.
It will make even little fights with your partner a bigger issue. Usual differences which existed since ages will now be worrisome for you.
Your mind will create an illusion that your life will be much better with that charming colleague.
At this point in your life, if you are the slave of your mind, you will either end up cheating on your partner or divorcing them if your colleague also has same amount of romantic interest in you.
And, if your mind is a slave of yours, it will be very easy for you to dismiss all the rubbish theories it brings forth. It will be easy for you to not get drowned in the sea of emotions created by your brain.
So the question is, how do we not become the slave of our own minds?
I do that by considering my mind, a third person. I evaluate everything that it tells me, just like I would evaluate any advice of someone else.
Whenever I think of brushing my teeth at night before going to bed, it comes up with thousands of excuses like you already do that in the morning too. I dismiss all of them without giving a second thought and start brushing.
Whenever something unpleasant happens, it tells me to yell at people and tries to make me angry. I disobey it. I do not shout. I do not do anything. I just remain silent.
Sometimes it tries to trap me in overthinking a particular situation. It repeatedly plays the same situation in mind. I break the loop by simply focusing on something else.
Whatever it tells me to do, I do not act upon it immediately. I pause for a moment, evaluate that task from a third-person perspective and then act upon it if it seems logical and rational.
Have you ever wondered why it is so easy to give advice to others about even the most difficult and complicated situations?
It's very easy because you yourself aren't involved in that situation, so there's no involvement of any kind of emotions. The advice is always purely practical, rational and critical.
So, when you consider your mind as a third person, you will evaluate every command it throws at you.
For example, when you want to exercise in the early morning, you will come up with thousands of excuses that will suit the decision of not doing it. But, don't be fooled by it. How would you react if you hear someone else giving the same excuses? You will criticize them for being lazy and bash them.
Do the same with your mind.
Treat it like a third person and bash it badly whenever it tries to fool you with its stupid arguments, theories and opinions.
Either your mind controls you or you control your mind, there's no in-between.
If your mind controls you, you will have the worst life.
If you control your mind, you will have the best life.
This is very simple and we all very well know about this.
Still, it becomes very difficult for a lot of people, and by a lot I mean billions and billions, to control their minds.
Be the master of your mind and you will be the master of this world.
