“Vijay, you book the tickets.” My father was a bit angry when I asked my sister to book the bus tickets for our journey to Rajkot.

“Dad, I know how to book tickets. Let her learn something.” I replied politely.

I asked my sister to search for the contact details of all the travel agencies in Porbandar. Then I made her enquire about the timings and fares. And finally, the tickets were booked.

Now, she knows how to. And she will master it soon. She will never need any Vijay anymore. She is independent in that matter.

In my caste, most families don't let their Girl children be independent.

From driving to banking, from travelling alone to shopping, be it anything, people here always protect their daughters. And this protection leads to dependence. That is terrible parenting.

I'm not asking them to leave them on their own, I'm just wishing that they never be dependent on anyone in their life. Not even their parents. Not even their husbands.
